So i have here an HDD that is dying and I have a new one (same size)
what software should i use for 1:1 copy? (the old HDD will be replaced)

By 1:1 i mean bit by bit copy. So the OS and all the programs dont have to be reinstalled. After its done u just switch HDDs like nothing happened

Now i know this can be done automatically with raid etc, but its a one time thing

Any recomendations?

DD with linux (hard)
Or ghost (easy), get a hirens boot cd and it has all the tools you need.

Not that acronis isn't good or bad, I just use ghost for... like.. I don't know... 15 years or so and it works.

Get a hirens 9.5 (10 is available but I haven't upped it yet)

but it only has ghost explorer? which cant really make a backup from what i can see

That would be good, you can«t dl the hirens from their site but from torrents or emule, however...
